Southam Start League With Win
Southam made the trip over to Shipston for their first league game of the season. The away side started strongly and dominated possession for much of the first half. The first chance fell to Cameron Power who’s strike found the top corner from 20 yards.
Shipston came back into the game as half time neared and a string of passes around the defensive area created time for a shot which Callum Voss managed to get a hand to but it still crept in.
Following half time Southam applied move pressure to the home side and as the ball was played through to Charlie Parsons, his shot was deflected as far as Max Washbrooke who was on hand to tap into the open net. Shipston had their chances to pull level but a big defensive effort from the back four, including a header off the line by Ollie Upton, kept the visitors in the lead. Determined to add to their tally Lennon Cramp managed to challenge the keeper forcing a good save from one and another deflected effort again falling to Max who replicated his previous finish.
A positive start to the league for Southam with all players contributing to a good performance resulting in a 3-1 win. Man of the match is awarded to Dylan Jones for his solid performance in defence putting in some fantastic tackles that frustrated the Shipston attack.
