Clinical Southam put St Benedict’s to the sword in the dark!
In the dusk the Year 9 football team put in an excellent performance away from home against a strong St. Benedict’s side. We started with a high tempo and pressed the St Benedict’s side well, always on the look out to get in behind their defence and test their keeper. After a string of well created chances and some excellent saves from their keeper, Lennon Cramp pounced on a short corner to slot the ball home, giving us a 1-0 lead at half-time.
We knew it was important to keep the tempo and pressure high at the start of the second half, and although they looked dangerous from corners and created some good chances, we always held a threat from fast breaks and forced some more quality saves from their keeper. However, a fine solo effort from the impressive Cameron Power gave us the cushion we needed to make the game safe.
We nearly extended our lead further with efforts from Euan Jayes and Joe Washbrooke, but a solid defensive display at the back and a combative midfield kept St Benedict’s at bay and in the fast receding light secured a good 2-0 win.
Well done to the whole team, even the unfortunate Rowan Mahli, and to Man of the Match Cameron Power for his quality on the ball and energy and strength in Midfield.
