Year 10 Rugby

Southam V Camp Hill

Year 10’s produce a spirited performance against Camp Hill.

Let down by a couple of team members, we travelled to Camp Hill with only 12 players. Luckily Camp Hill generously gave us 3 players (Ayhan, Sam and Emery) to even the teams up at 15 a side.

From the start it looked an even contest, with both side physically well matched, and it was Emery, one of our gifted players, who broke rapidly down the right hand side, invading tackles as he went to score in the corner.

Camp Hill responded well, showing their superiority at the breakdown, and levelled the scores mid way through the half. They crossed again just before the break to finish 12-5 ahead.

The second half continued to be well contested, but Camp Hill took control with 2 more well worked tries. We persisted to threaten, but some handling errors and infringements at the breakdown halted our progress. With the clock running down, we had one more chance to attack their line, and this time our persistence paid off. A number of strong runs, probed their back line, before a forceful drive from Josh Lee saw him get close enough to stretch for the line. Our try was converted with a drop goal from Ayhan, to finish off the game with the scores at Camp Hill 22-10 Southam College.

Both teams were congratulated at the end for their sportsmanship and attitude, in a game that showed the potential we have if we can get a full team out.

Our last game of the season is against Westwood Academy, Coventry on Thursday 29th Nov. It would be great to see a full complement of players finishing our season on a high!
