Year 10 Football

Southam v Campion

Southam come out on top from a feisty affair.

After a relatively tame and, from Southam’s point of view, disappointing first 20 mins, during which we conceded 2 soft goals, the Yr 10 team dug in well to force themselves back into the game. The ever willing runner of our front line, Leyton M., forced a mistake from the Campion defence to concede a penalty that Cameron P. tucked away with confidence, showing nerves of steel after a unfortunate start. With the seconds ticking down to the end of the half, our high pressing game again forced a foul just outside the area. A well stuck freekick could only be parried by their keeper and Harley W., showing great instinct followed up to tuck away the rebound.

To have levelled it up at the end of the half put Southam in the driving seat with the momentum behind us. We started the second half by maintaining our high intensity pressing game, and were unfortunate to fall behind again to a well taken strike. However, the Southam heads didn’t drop, and again it was Leyton M. who had the beating of their backline, who countered down the left to deliver a driven strike that was too hot for their Keeper to handle. At 3-3 the game was in the balance and the discipline of one of their players in particular was left wanting as he committed a string of nasty challenges. We show great resolve to maintain our composure and were duly rewarded with a fitting winner from a Cameron P freekick to win it 4-3.

Well done to all the team, especially man of the match Harley W. It was promising to see a full team out and we’ll need all of that resolve and more for our next match against NLS (A) 28th Feb.
