Southam V St. Benedict’s
Southam tame the weather and the opposition with a mature performance.
On a wet and windy afternoon, our Year 10 team showed a level of confidence and aptitude that showed the improvements that have been made by the team this year and the promise for next year.
From the kick-off, we quickly showed our intent with a couple of well worked moves forcing their keeper into some fine saves. However, it was from one of the resulting corners that L. Cramp left him with no chance when he met a Cameron P. corner with a thumping header. We kept our pressure up, with some assistance from the wind and slope of the pitch, and were rewarded when a powerful angled drive from Cameron P. was too hot for their keeper to handle.
With a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time we looked to consolidate our position and ensure that we kept the St. Benedict’s attacks at bay. Apart from a few forays into our half we were able to comfortably deal with their attacks, and extended our lead further when Leyton M. deflected a driven Lennon C. free kick into their net.
Eventually, with the game won, St.Benedict’s did manage to fashion a number of chances, but Olli U. pulled off a number of impressive saves to keep a clean sheet and wrap up an excellent end to the season for our team.
Well done lads and looking forward to next year.
