Year 7 Rugby

Left in the Changing Rooms!

Y7 Southam 0 Princethorpe 30

On a rain drenched, blustery November morning, Princethorpe produced an impressive display of Rugby in difficult conditions. Excellent speed to the breakdown and good simple passing proved decisive. Southam started poorly and appeared to be still in the changing rooms (quite true in some cases!) as a lost maul and two missed tackles led to the opening try in the first minute.

Kieran Caruana produced his best performance and was given Tackle of the Match for excellent defensive work against his opposition scrum half. Joe Washbrooke was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent tackling and terrific fast breaks. Joe made the most of his opportunities, showing a real tenacious approach. This is a good example to many of the boys who appeared rather hesitant in this game. Ben ‘Weaver’ Robinson and James Phillips both had fine games. Congratulations to Oliver Gill and Billy Beck for promising debuts.

Wednesday’s practice will focus on speed to the breakdown for the forwards and handling and alignment in the backs. It is important that all boys show commitment to training during this run of tough fixtures.

Netball Match Report

Southam teams battle Myton on cold drizzly evening.

A game that was tough from the beginning, the year 7 Southam Netball team secured a 1-1 draw against Myton. The team including, Sarah Costa, Alex Lyle, Olivia Constable, Rose Hill, Issie Fairhurst, Savannah Spilman-Penn, Ellie Cumberbatch, Charlotte Wain and Bo Crump all put up a big team fight to ensure Myton didn’t score anymore goals! The defence were strong and managed to pass the ball up the court with the help of the speedy centre court players. The attack did a great job in keeping the ball, and stayed strong even in the rain, although only a draw, this game was a great team effort.
