U14 Girls Football Cup Match – Round 1

Last night the U14 team headed to Avon Valley for the first round of the cup. A new team of girls led by captain Sarah Costa turned up ready to play for the win. Poppy Lummis in goal with the help of Olivia Constable, Letitia Cowley, Emily Lovett, Ana Lovett, Lana Wilson-Shrubb and Niamh Purnell worked hard to keep the ball out of our defensive half, pressuring Avon Valley and giving the ball back to our midfield and attack.

Martha Stanton and Lucy Parsons worked hard in the middle to help the defence and keep the ball with attack. Poppy Hilton and Georgia Eversden applied immense pressure to the Avon Valley  attack hassling and tackling and getting the ball to Southam forwards.

Sarah Costa, Abbie Bourton and Ellie Cumberbatch worked extremely well as a unit, pushing against the Avon Valley defence and working the ball well through to score. Megan Free came on to support the attack and apply even more pressure from Southam! Niamh Purnell moved up front and this further allowed Southam to work through the Avon Valley defence.

Abbie Bourton scored an amazing 5 goals, with Sarah Costa and Megan Free scoring 1 each! Final score 7-0 to Southam. A great first round, looking forward to the next match!

Well played to all, Miss MacLachlan & Mr Ginger.

Year 9 Football

10 man Southam aren’t CRAMPed by opposition as they POWER to victory
The Y9 Football team made the short trip to Kineton and dominated from the first whistle to finish with a 10-1 victory.
A tactical shift to a back 3, made up of Rowan Malhi, Aaron Jones and Louie Bulyka paid off as the defence disrupted  Kineton’s forward play, allowing the midfield to set up wave after wave of attack.
Cam Power opened the scoring early on with a 40 yard thunderbolt into the top corner. The spectators on the touchline were unsure whether this was a humped clearance upfield or a genuine piece of individual brilliance.
Further goals followed from Max Washbrooke, an own goal, Charlie Parsons, Harley Wright and two further Power goals from outside the area. Lennon Cramp finished with a hatrick, his third struck across the keeper into the bottom corner, undoubtedly the best of the bunch.
Well done boys!
